The History of San Marcos, Texas
Various indigenous peoples, including the
Tonkawa, Coahuiltecan, and Lipan Apache tribes, historically inhabited San
Marcos. In the 18th century, Spanish explorers and missionaries arrived in the
region, and the Spanish government granted a land title for the area to Juan
MartÃn de Veramendi. After Mexico gained independence from Spain in 1821, the
land passed into Mexican control. In 1831, San Marcos de Neve, named after the
San Marcos River, became the center of a Mexican land grant. Texas gained
independence from Mexico in 1835. The city experienced significant growth and
development in the mid-19th century. San Marcos' first post office opened in
1851, and the arrival of the International-Great Northern Railroad in 1880
further stimulated its growth.

San Marcos Police Offering Free Steering
Wheel Locks to Stop Car Thefts
Steering wheel locks can effectively deter
vehicle theft and increase the security of your vehicle. While they may not
wholly prevent determined thieves, they provide additional protection and make
it more difficult for someone to steal your car. It's important to note that no
security measure is foolproof, and experienced thieves may be able to overcome
or bypass steering wheel locks given enough time and the right tools. You can
use it with other security measures, such as parking in well-lit areas, using
an alarm system, utilizing a vehicle tracking device, and practicing general
vehicle security measures like locking doors and windows. Click here to read more.
